22. The protons on the first ethylene oxide monomer unit (i.e., adjacent the ester linkage) are shifted slightly downfield, allowing their integration apart from the remainder of the polymer chain. The ratio of the area of these first four protons on the chain to that for the bipyridine protons is 4:3 for the pure, di-tailed ligand.
