20. We cannot exclude the self-focusing in speckles for the laser intensities under consideration. However we believe it would have more significant effects on the spectrum and angular distribution of the transmitted light than on those of the backscattered one. It was demonstrated in the numerical modeling of the single hot spot dynamics in homogeneous plasmas in Refs. 11 that SBS occurs in the front part of the speckle and is not affected by self-focusing which occurs in the rear part of the speckle and involves the light transmitted through the SBS-active region. The agreement of our theory with experiments also indicates minor effects of self-focusing on the backward SBS characteristics.
