It is to be mentioned, in this connection, that the relationship between the surface roughness and the extent of photoemission on silver has also been discussed by the above authors. However, most of their measurements were performed using a Ag(100) single crystal. On the other hand, their observed dependence of the photoemission currents on the incident light frequency did not display any maximum in the energy range corresponding normally to the plasmon excitation on silver. Therefore, it seems doubtful that the above photoeffects include any significant contribution arising from the excitation of surface plasmons.
