17. 1H NMR spectra of the crude mixture presented a signal at δ 8.1 ppm for (S)-4 and at δ 8.22 ppm for (R)-5 corresponding to the proton of the group (H-C(Fc)=N). Attempts to purify the imine through silicagel chromatography as expected, were unsuccessful due to the hydrolysis of the imine.
