Phenomenology of intentional repetitive behaviors in obsesslve-compulsive disorder and Tourette's disorder
-
Miguel EC, Coffey BJ, Baer L, Savage CR, Rauch SL, Jenike MA: •• Phenomenology of intentional repetitive behaviors in obsesslve-compulsive disorder and Tourette's disorder. J Clin Psychiatry 1995, 56:246-255. In this study, patients with OCD were compared with those with Tourette syndrome to examine premonitory phenomena related to intentional repetitive behaviors. Although semiquantitative, the differences noted between these two groups lends significant credence to the belief that these disorders are distinct. However, the study did not include patients comorbid for Tourette syndrome and OCD.

Science 1996, 273:1225-1227. The use of monozygotic twins with phenotypically variant Tourette syndrome is an intriguing topic, especially as the authors demonstrated apparent neurochemical differences in dopamine receptor populations which is coincident with tic severity. How these findings relate to the morphologic changes described among twins with Tourette syndrome is still poorly understood, however. See also [21].
