Although semiquantitative, the differences noted between these two groups lends significant credence to the belief that these disorders are distinct. However, the study did not include patients comorbid for Tourette syndrome and OCD.

The authors report similarities between Tourette syndrome and chronic tic disorder with respect to neuropsychologic attributes. The high correlation between the two conditions would suggest that each is part of a spectrum of disorders.

Using a stimulus response paradigm, this group illustrated quantitative similarities between Tourette syndrome and Huntington's disease, a known basal ganglia disorder. This further substantiates the hypothesis of basal ganglia involvement in Tourette syndrome.
