Characterization of distribution of T lymphocyte subsets and activated T lymphocytes infiltrating into sarcoid lesions

Kita S, Tsuda T, Sugisaki K, Miyazaki E, Matsumoto T: Characterization of distribution of T lymphocyte subsets and activated T lymphocytes infiltrating into sarcoid lesions. Intern Med 1995, 34:847-855. A careful immunohistochemical characterization of T lymphocytes in the granulomatous lesions of sarcoidosis. T lymphocytes in the internal area of granulomas seem to be involved in granuloma formation and express activation markers, whereas T lymphocytes in the outer areas seem to suppress granuloma formation.

Presence of mRNA for Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in blood mononuclear cells is associated with an active stage I sarcoidosis
-
Swider C, Laba A, Moniewska A, Gerdes J, Flad HD, Lange A: Presence of mRNA for Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in blood mononuclear cells is associated with an active stage I sarcoidosis. Clin Exp Immunol 1995, 100:401-405. Expression of messenger RNA for interferon gamma in peripheral blood occurs mainly in active stage I sarcoidosis and especially in those with Löfgren's syndrome. Several clinical manifestations in Löfgren's syndrome may be explained by excessive production of interferon gamma.

Am J Respir Crit Care Med 1995, 151:544-547. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from patients with active sarcoidosis contains high concentrations of a soluble form of CD 14, a myeloid differentiation antigen. The CD14 antigen may have a pathophysiologic role in sarcoidosis because it triggers the production of various cytokines.
