Posterior chamber intraocular lenses: Long-term results in pediatric cataract patients
-
Crouch ER, Pressman SH, Crouch EH: Posterior chamber intraocular •• lenses: long-term results in pediatric cataract patients. J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus 1995, 32:210-218. Review of long-term results of IOLs in 34 consecutive cases of children 2 to 18 years of age. The authors conclude that there is only a slight myopic shift over time, and IOLs are safe in children 2 to 18 years of age.

Results of a prospective evaluation of three methods of management of pediatric cataracts
-
Basti S, Ravishankar U, Gupta S: Results of a prospective evaluation of three methods of management of pediatric cataracts. Ophthalmology 1996, 103:713-720. Three methods for the management of pediatric cataracts were presented: 1) lensectomy anterior vitrectomy, 2) extracapsular cataract extraction with IOL implantation, and 3) extracapsular cataract extraction with primary posterior capsulectomy and IOL implantation.

Haptic breakage following neonatal IOL implantation in a nonhuman primate model
-
Lambert SR, Fernandes A, Grossniklaus HE: Haptic breakage following • neonatal IOL implantation in a nonhuman primate model. J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus 1995, 32:219-224. Studied the implantation of IOLs in infant monkeys to monitor long-term complications. There was a significant number of haptics that broke after lens implantation, all associated with malposition of the lens and lens haptics.

The critical period for surgical treatment of dense congenital unilateral cataract
-
Birch EE, Stager DR: The critical period for surgical treatment of dense •• congenital unilateral cataract. Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci 1996, 37:1532-1538. Studied the critical period of visual development in patients with unilateral congenital cataracts with nonparametric statistical methods. Concludes that intervention before 6 weeks may minimize the ambyogenic effects of unilateral cataracts.
