    • This isolate, strain CNE-852, was analyzed by FAME analysis (Acculab, Newark, Delaware). The closest similarity was with the genus Vibrio, (similiarity index of 0.166), however this is a very poor genus correlation. Strain CNE-852 is a highly motile, Gram-negative, curved rod that does not grow when seawater is replaced with deionized water.

    • To isolate this strain, the sediment was serially diluted with sterile seawater and plated onto an agar medium (B3: peptone 1%, yeast extract 0.6%, glycerol 0.6%, seawater 75%, de-ionized water 25%, 1.6% agar). The strain was removed from the isolation plate with a sterile loop and obtained in pure culture following successive transfers on B3 agar. For large scale production, strain CNE-852 was grown in Medium B3, without agar, at a shaker speed of 230 rpm, for 7 days. The whole fermentation broth was subsequently extracted with ethyl acetate to obtain the crude extract.
