None of the workers had IgM or IgG antibodies to SNV even though 27% reported some symptoms of illness. The study indicates that transmission is unlikely in healthcare settings.

In 74 adult patients with nephropathia epidemica there was an increased prevalence of individuals with B8 and DRB1*0301 haplotypes among those with the most severe disease. The workers were able to rule out other predisposing illnesses for the observations, and suggest that disease severity may be affected by human genetic background.
