Genetic linkage of familial open angle glaucoma to chromosome 1q21-q31
-
Sheffield VC, Stone EM, Adward WLM, Drack AV, Johnson AT, Streb LM, Nichols BE: Genetic linkage of familial open angle glaucoma to chromosome 1q21-q31. Nature Genet 1993, 4:47-50. This study was the first to localize a gene linked to open- angle glaucoma. Affected family members had a severe form of the disease, with an early onset of glaucoma and very high intraocular pressure. The GLC1A genetic interval was mapped on chromosome 1q21-31, between markers D1S194 and D1S191.

Morissette J, Côté G, Anctil JL, Plante M, Amyot M, Héon E, Trope GE, Weissenbach J, Raymond V: A common gene for juvenile and adult-onset primary open-angle glaucomas confined on chromosome 1q. Am J Hum Genet 1995, 56:1431-1442. The authors analyzed a family with 46 patients affected with GLC1A-linked disease. Phenotypic diversity was shown. In some subjects, glaucoma was diagnosed after 40 years of age; six patients had isolated ocular hypertension.

Hum Genet 1996, 98:567-571. A variable age of glaucoma onset (age range 11-51 years; median 36 years) was reported in this family with GLC1A-linked disease.
