    • 1H ROESY and COSY measurements. The spectra of the crude and recrystallized materials were identical, indicating that the different grid species present equilibrate. In addition, mixing preformed [2 × 2] and [3 × 3] square grids in the correct ratios generates an equilibrium solution giving the same NMR spectrum. The fact that the species has higher symmetry in solution (NMR spectroscopy) than in the solid state (crystal structure analysis) may be attributed to fast exchange between the two rhombohedral enantiomers, as noted previously [8].
