    • The CD spectrum of the 5,8-diacetate-8′-p-dimethylaminobenzoate 12 as noted provides only a close approximation to the interaction which should be subtracted from the spectrum of the 5,8,8′-tri-p-dimethylaminobenzoate 11 to afford the correct difference spectrum. The position and sign of the extrema in the resulting difference spectrum are sensitive to the position and intensity of the extrema in the spectrum which is being subtracted, and the deduction made here is not conclusive in its own right.
