    • ε-(carboxymethyl)lysine (CML), is a product of both lipid peroxidation and glycoxidation reactions
    • This paper demonstrated that N′-(carboxymethyl)lysine, one of the few identified products of combined glycation and oxidation of proteins and a potentially important epitope in antibody formation, may also be formed from glyoxal derived from metal-catalysed oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids. N′-(carboxymethyl)lysine is therefore both a glycoxidation product and a lipoxidation product, and may therefore be a more general marker of oxidative stress than was originally believed

The technique allows isolation of the more modified LDL present in plasma, allowing the effects of modification to be more easily identified.
