The accuracy is measured by comparing clinical and autopsy-confirmed diagnoses.

Neurology 1996; 47:1-9. This article reports on the newly proposed NINDS-SPSP criteria for PSP. It also provides guidelines to diagnose and monitor clinical disabilities in PSP.

The authors describe the most common neuropsychiatric features of 22 clinically diagnosed PSP patients by using NINDS-SPSP criteria and compared them with age-matched controls and patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Postgrad Med J 1996, 72:293-296. This is the first study to evaluate the nocturnal and respiratory disturbances in PSP. It also suggests possible therapeutic interventions.

J Neuropathol Exp Neurol 1996; 55:97-105. This is the first study to assess the accuracy of neuropathologists in diagnosing tau disorders including PSP, postencephalitic parkinsonism, corticobasal degeneration and Pick's disease. It also revises the preliminary NINDS neuropathologic criteria for these disorders.
