Lipid peroxides as thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances were increased in both urine and kidneys of hyperoxaluric and nephrolithic rats.

Free radical production by confluent cultures in the presence of oxalate was determined by monitoring reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium to a blue reaction product and by the conversion of dihydrorhodamine 123 to its fluorescent derivative rhodamine 123. In addition, the effect of free radical scavengers, catalase and Superoxide dismutase, on oxalate-induced changes was also investigated.
