Lipid peroxidation was investigated by determining the production of lipid peroxides by hyperoxaluric and nephrolithic rats. Lipid peroxides as thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances were increased in both urine and kidneys of hyperoxaluric and nephrolithic rats.

    • 1 cells: Role of free radicals
    • 1 cells: role of free radicals. Kidney Int 1996, 49:413-419. Free radical production by confluent cultures in the presence of oxalate was determined by monitoring reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium to a blue reaction product and by the conversion of dihydrorhodamine 123 to its fluorescent derivative rhodamine 123. In addition, the effect of free radical scavengers, catalase and Superoxide dismutase, on oxalate-induced changes was also investigated.
