Pharm. 1961, 294, 37, that when 1-[(ethoxycarbonyl)methyl]-2-methylpyridinium bromide reacted with symmetrically substituted 1,2-diketones, except for 1,2-acenaphthenequinone, produced the corresponding quinolizinium bromides with loss of the ester group as the result of the in situ hydrolisis and descarboxylation of it.
