The authors demonstrate a direct relationship between the severity of structural and functional deficits and subsequent rate of recovery and pyschologic sequelae.

This paper demonstrates how treatment for a disease can vary markedly for apparent nonmedical factors It should be emphasized that the data from questionnaire results may vary somewhat from actual patterns of practice data. For example, a partial laryngectomy may in theory be the preferred approach, but in a given patient it may not be feasible.
