1. De Haas M, Kleijer M, van Zwieten R, Roos D, von dem Borne AEGKR: Neutrophil FcγRIIIb deficiency, nature, and clinical consequences: a study of 21 individuals from 14 families. Blood 1995, 86:2403-2413. Analyzes the clinical course and gene defects in people whose neutrophils lack FcγRIIIb. The entire FcγRIIIB gene was deleted in all people. Some people experienced infections and autoimmune diseases, whereas others had no clinical problems.

De Vries E, Koene HR, Vossen JM, Gramatama J-W, von den Borne AEGKR, Waalijer JLM, Haraldsson A, de Haas M, van Tol MJD: Identification of an unusual Fc-γ-receptor IIIa (CD16) on natural killer cells in a patient with recurrent infections. Blood 1996, 88:3022-3027. A patient with frequent viral infections was found to have natural killer cells that expressed an abnormal FcγRIIIa due to a base pair substitution and an amino acid change. It is not clear whether the change in the receptor is responsible for the patient's viral infections.

A new polymorphism of the FcγRIIIb is described. This is a polymorphism of the NA2-FcγRIIIB gene and is involved with neonatal alloimmune neutropenia.

6. Stroncek DF, Leonard K, Eiber G, Malech HL, Gallin JI, Leitman SF: Alloimmunlzation after granulocyte transfusions. Transfusion 1996, 36:1009-1015. Patients with chronic granulomatous disease who were transfused with granulocytes were tested for HLA and granulocyte-specific antibodies. Seventy-eight percent of patients produced antibodies to HLA antigens and 44% to granulocyte-specific antigens.

Bone marrow transplantation patients infected with cytomegalovirus produced autoantibodies specific to CD13, but antibodies to CD13 were not detected in transplantation patients who were not infected with cytomegalovirus.

Br J Haematol 1996, 94:464-469. A child with autoimmune neutropenia caused by antibodies to FcγRIIIb was successfully treated with G-CSF. G-CSF increased the level of soluble FcγRIIIb in the plasma, and the soluble FcγRIIIb absorbed the antibody.
