    • The relation in Eq. (8) among the total intensity, its isotropic part, and the depolarization ratio of Rayleigh scattering is derived for a low pressure gaseous sample in which molecules are totally uncorrelated [J. Cabannes, La diffusion moléculaire de la lumière, (Les Presses Universitaires de France, Paris, 1929)]. In this paper we assume that Eq. (8) holds for liquids.

    • The depolarization ratio of PCARS, which was measured by analyzing the scattered intensity, agreed with that of Rayleigh scattering within experimental uncertainties. Therefore, we assume that most of the increase in PCARS intensity is associated with the isotropic scattering as in the case of Rayleigh scattering.

    • 2 is so small compared to the observed ∼20% increase of the PCARS intensity that we do not take f(T) into account in our analysis.
