Proposed role of an eventual failure of this response in foam cell necrosis in advanced atherosclerosis. J Biol Chem 1996, 271:22773-22781. This article presents the first evidence that the increase in PC biosynthesis in FC loaded macrophages helps prevent FC-mediated cytotoxicity. The strongest data are those in which blunting of the PC response is shown to cause a rise in the cellular FC:PL ratio and then cellular necrosis.
