    • Differences in the mechanisms of uptake and endocytosis of small and large chylomicron remnants by rat liver
    • Windler E, Greeve J, Robenek H, Rinninger F, Greten H, Jäckle S: Differences in the mechanisms of uptake and endocytosis of small and large chylomicron remnants by rat liver. Hepatology 1996, 24:344-351. The authors found that small fasting chylomicron remnants were cleared by hepatic LDL receptors, whereas uptake of large post-prandial chylomicron remnants proceeded through an LDL receptor-independent pathway that was significantly impaired by infusion of heparin or heparinase. Large remnants were cleared from plasma much faster than the small particles, but were more slowly internalized by hepatocytes. Upon internalization, both types of particles appeared in the compartment of uncoupling of receptors and ligands and in multivesicular bodies.
