25. The cranial capacities of skull 5 and cranium 4 were measured directly. In cranium 6 the capacity was measured after accurate reconstruction of the sphenoid bone and vault top. This is the only nonadult individual included in this study. Its age is estimated at about 14 years on the basis of dental evidence. Given the age at death of this individual, its cranial capacity would not have increased substantially. D. Begun and A. Walker [in The Nariokotome Homo erectus Skeleton (Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1993), pp. 326-358] increased the cranial capacity of the KNM-WT 15000 individual by 3.5% to compensate for the fact that the specimen was not fully mature,
