Suzuki treatment of 4 with 10 mole-% of catalyst C for 36 h (no boronic acid present) led to an increase of the phosphine oxide NMR signal by a factor of approximately 1.8 but no detectable phosphonium ion signal or any other change. The percentage of the catalyst refers to number of r. u.s and was, thus, used in an enormous excess to bromine end groups.
22. Compound 7 is not an ideal model for a P-induced kink in the polymer chain because the phenylene ring-carrying the hexyl chains is not directly attached to phosphorus.
