2. The blue sponge was identified by Dr. R. Van Soest (Amsterdam) as quite close to Theonetta swinhoeii, which is usually purple-brown, the only difference being the size of the small acantharhabds (20 mm in T. Swinhoeii against 10 mm here) and the virtual absence of ectosomal phyllotriaenes. Color changes of Theonellas due to microsymbionts are quite common.
