The key issues, developed by the reengineering team, were subjected to the scrutiny of the employee body through two White Paper Fairs. These fairs consisted essentially of wall sized posters that depicted the findings to date. The posters were displayed in a large room dedicated for this purpose and each session lasted several hours. Each of the P/SDI phases was represented by an individual section of the room. Within these sections there were thorough explanations of the present mode of operations and the root cause problems arranged in terms of process, organization, and systems. Over 400 employees involved in new product development attended the fairs and provided investigators with their insights, questions, critique, and suggestions concerning the data depicted on the posters. This was done both in person (at the sessions themselves) and in writing following the sessions. Initially participants at the White Paper Fair were encouraged understand the research in silence taking in the overall analysis of the P/SDI process. This was followed investigation team presentations and further discussions in order to clarify the visitors understanding. Finally the participants were encouraged to provide their personal insights and criticisms directly to the issues by way of posted notes. This iterative and interactive methodology provide a means to: further refining the earlier analysis; clarify the meaning behind the issues and their connections; identifying common themes; and to popularize the reengineering efforts with the employees through which changes will be implemented.
