    • Large-scale reactions which use crude pteroyl hydrazide (13) may produce small amounts of N-nitrosopteroyl azide (28) because of the inadvertant use of an excess of tert-butyl nitrite. In this instance, treatment of the 27/28 mixture with sodium azide (see ref 12) effects smooth reduction of the N-nitroso moiety of 28 to 27.
