    • 2 is standardized by ion probe data for Amelia albite (11). Chemical compositions were measured by electron microprobe in Edinburgh and in Madison using wavelength-dispersive spectrometers (WDS). Normal standardization and correction procedures were employed. The depth of x-ray excitation for quantitative chemical analysis is 5 μm such that the electron probe data represent nearly the same volume of sample as the 6 to 8 μm deep ion probe pits. Images of chemical composition (Fig. 1) were made in Madison with stage scans and WDS.
