9)UV/visible spectra were obtained using a Hewlett Packard Vectra 286/12 at 20°C with 10mm path length length cuvettes. Concentrations of drug (10-20μM to minimise aggregation) were added to SHE buffer (I = 0.1) or to DNA (0.5mM) in SHE buffer (I = 0.1) or to 10 mM SDS in 0.1 SHE buffer. The spectra were run between 300 and 600 nm.
