    • 1H nmr analysis. When as little as 1% of the dibromide is present in subsequent reactions such as those leading to 6b, 7b, or 8, the elemental analysis for bromine may be high even though carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen analyses fall within ±0.4% of theoretical values. An alternative route to 19 which can avoid this problem is to subject 2-bromo-3,4,5-trimethoxybenzamide to Hofmann rearrangement followed by hydrolysis as described in reference 35.
