Thalamic stimulation for severe action tremor after lesion of the superior cerebellar peduncle
-
Geny C, Nguyen JP, Cesaro P, Goujon C, Brugieres P, Degos JD: Thalamic stimulation for severe action tremor after lesion of the superior cerebellar peduncle. J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry 1995, 59:641-642. The authors reported the case of a patient presenting with a cavernoma limited to the superior cerebellar peduncle, responsible for severe action tremor comprising intentional and postural components. Thalamic stimulation was effective on all components of this tremor.

Peduncular 'rubral' tremor and dopaminergic denervation: A PET study
-
Remy P, de Recondo A, Defer G, Loc'h C, Amarenco P, Plante-Bordeneuve V, Dao-Castellana MH, Bendriem B, Crouzel C, Clanet M, et al.: Peduncular 'rubral' tremor and dopaminergic denervation: a PET study. Neurology 1995, 45:472-477. The authors provided an important contribution to the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of certain forms of action tremor. In six patients presenting with action tremor related to a lesion of the cerebral peduncle, positron emission tomography showed a marked reduction of fluorodopa uptake in the ipsilateral striatum. These patients were improved by dopa therapy.

J Neurosurg 1996, 84:203-214. The authors reported the long-term results of thalamic stimulation in the treatment of abnormal movements. This series consisted of 117 patients operated on between 1988 and 1996. This reference article was particularly devoted to the technical aspects of anatomical and electrophysiological localization of the stereotactic target.
