Ligand bindingmolecular mechanics calculation of the streptavidin-biotin rupture force
-
Grubmuller H, Heymann B, Tavan P: Ligand binding: molecular mechanics calculation of the streptavidin-biotin rupture force. Science 1996, 271:997-999. By applying molecular-dynamics simulations to a monomenc streptavidin-biotin complex surrounded by a shell of water, the authors were able to reproduce the experimentally measured rupture force from atomic force microscopy on the tetrameric complex, and to provide a possible mechanistic pathway for the rupture.
