12. According to the skeletal frame and spicules the sponge belongs to the order Haplosclerida but within this order it is hard to find a family whose characters match with the present species. The nearest families are Niphatidae (Van Soest, 1980) and Oceanapiidae (Van Soest, 1980) which show similar choanosomal skeletons but both have an ectosomal reticulation that is lacking in the present species. Further studies and the possible erection of a new genus are needed for the taxonomic assessment of this new species.
