Trans R Soc Trop Med Hyg 1995, 89:319-321. Patients with W. bancrofti microfilaraemia in Brazil were given diethylcarbamazine 6 mg/kg a day for 12 days, 6 mg/kg once, or 2 mg/kg three times on 1 day. After 12 months, there was little difference between the three groups with 40-42% of patients being amicrofilaraemic and similar suppressions in overall mean microfilaraemia densities were shown.

Bull WHO 1996, 74:85-90. Salt containing diethylcarbamazine in a concentration of 0.1-0.2 mg/100 mg was given to the entire population of Karaikal (119978) for a 4-year period from 1982, with a per capita consumption of 13.3 g of diethylcarbamazine during that period. The prevalence of microfilaraemia fell from 4.5% in 1982 to 0.14% in 1985 but rose again to 0.4% in 1993. Techniques useful for ensuring the administration of diethylcarbamazine in salt to a population are very well described.
