    • For reference systems simulating infinitely thick emitting layers in Eq. (3), clean polycrystal Pd, Au film (∼0.5 mm), and polystyrene (≥300 Å) on Si were used in ARXPS measurements. Also examined were well-defined, thin emitting layers such as p(2x2) 8/Pd(100), c(2√2×√2)CO/Pd(100), and self-assembled calixarene membrane (∼17 Å) on Au.
