note
-
Joseph E. Schwartzberg has informed me that there is not any evidence provided by the Indian government of the presence of Sudanese in Kashmir.According to him, there is a possibility that the designation of "Sudhan," referring to the major ethnic group found in Punch and in adjacent tracts west of Jehlum, might have been somehow altered to become Sudanese. (Personal correspondence of June 1996.)
