    • Bertillon, 'Morbidity and Mortality', 560, n1. To see how sloppy Bertillon's methods as an analyst of sickness records were, given the technology of his day, compare his work with that of such British statisticians and actuaries as Francis G. P. Neison, Jr. and Henry Ratcliffe. For example, Ratcliffe and Neison calculated time at risk by taking into account the flow of members entering and leaving the friendly societies, but Bertillon made no effort to calculate time at risk, merely reporting the annual average number of members at each age of the Lyons silk workers' sick fund.
