note

9. Even for long separations, the threshold for two pulses should be lower than that for a single pulse because there are twice as many useful looks. The SDT prediction is that the threshold should be 1.5 dB lower (vs. 1.6 dB, obtained) for independent looks.

Temporal integration of trains of tone pulses by normal and by cochlearly impaired listeners
-
10. A psychometric function is the relation between some measure of performance, such as percentage correct or d′, and stimulus strength. In audition, the equation d′ = k Iα, where I is stimulus intensity and k and α are fitting constants, provides a good description of psychometric functions for detection. These functions are typically plotted on logarithmic coordinates, hence α is the slope, or steepness, of the psychometric function. The report of steeper psychometric functions with cochlear loss is R.P. Carlyon, S. Buus, and M. Florentine, Temporal integration of trains of tone pulses by normal and by cochlearly impaired listeners, Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 87, 260-268 (1990).
