5. ISLA is a service mark of the University of Southern California. The title of the project, "ISLA," was derived from the Spanish word for "island." ISLA is currently designed as an onsite server-client application and is available as a demostration. It is expected to be ready for general patron used in mid-1997. It is scheduled for general World Wide Web availability in early 1998, and can be overviwed at: http://www.usc.edu/Library/ ISLA.
6. Spatial information is information which is tied to a two- or three-dimensional frame. Spatial frames include, for example, the Earth's surface, the planets, the human body (medical imaging), and the sky. Since ISLA services the Los Angeles region, it is tied to the two-dimensional frame of the Earth's surface in the Los Angeles region.

The Alexandria Digital Library implementation uses a six-month interval between formal reevaluation and redefinition of short-term goals in order to account for research results inthe preceding six-month period and progressive technology (personal communication/discussion with members of the ADL technical team). Their experience might be a useful guide for the implementation of similar projects.
