-
Most poly(ethylene glycol) derivates employed for protein conjugation are terminated on one end of the polymer, usually with a methyl group. The IUPAC nomenclature for this general polymer is α-hydroxy-ω-methyl-poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl). In this paper we refer to this material simply as PEG.

For short-hand notation we will refer to compound 6 as "T-PEG". Of passing interest is that T-PEG, when freshly prepared, has an odor reminiscent of the pudding, flan.
