20. 2R Similar to the situation for oxides, whether a gel can be formed successfully depends on the rate of polymerization versus branching and cross-linking, which can be affected by the size of the alkyl group. If the alkyl group is small, solid insoluble polymer is formed. If the alkyl group is large, or if the Ti species is only partially aminolyzed, a gel is formed.
