Kitagawa H, Tanaka Y, Tsuchida K, Goto F, Ogawa T, Lidholt K, Lindahl U, Sugahara K: N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) transfer to the common carbohydrate-protein linkage region of sulfated glycosaminoglycans. Identification of UDP-GalNAc: chondrooligosaccharide α-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase in fetal bovine serum. J Biol Chem 1995, 270:22190-22195. This paper reports an enzyme activity that transfers an α-GalNAc residue to linkage tetrasaccharides. Its function in proteoglycan synthesis is unknown, but potentially provides a way to divert intermediates.
