    • We have verified how difficult it is to attain "dry" conditions when dealing with an extremely moisture sensitive compound such as 2: in fact, even a minute amount of water present in the reaction mixture isable to hydrolyse the first chlorine atom of 2 (the second is less reactive). What we have always observed during our experiments was that the color of the solutions of 1 + 2 turned more or less quickly from greenish-yellow to red-violet, with formation in diethylether of a violet solid.
