    • There were several attempts before the Ideal X, especially in the United States. As early as the late 1920s, intermodal container services were provided by land involving rail and highway but with little success when compared with more traditional modal transportation. In 1929, Seatrain Lines introduced a new service that transported railcars between New York and Havana but gradually moved to containers in the 1960s.
