This informative study of a single patient with acute eosinophilic pneumonia showed increased levels of eosinophils and interleukin-5 in bronchoalveolar lavage. After corticosteroid therapy these levels subsided. Further bronchoalveolar lavage eosinophils expressed CD54, HLA-DR, and CD69 surface molecules.

A comprehensive, clear, and up-to-date review that traces the evaluation of pulmonary Langerhans cell granulomatosis. The authors describe clinical and radiologic manifestations and contend that in some cases clinical and radiologic information is so persuasive that histologic confirmation may not be required.

Am J Surg Pathol 1995, 19:636-641. The authors contend that in most of the cases of Langerhans cell granulomatosis, the diagnosis can be secured on the basis of using monoclonal antibody 010 on paraffin sections, an approach which sounds very helpful.
