By making electrical measurements of the fusion pore using a cell-attached patch-clamp, exocytotic fusion pores from small secretory granules were detected. The pores behaved in a similar manner to those seen on fusion of larger granules.

Demonstration that a mutant hemagglutinin protein, with a GPI anchor replacing the transmembrane domain, could induce hemifusion without fusion-pore formation. Together with [41], this paper provided direct evidence for hemifusion in biological membrane fusion.
