    • Superoxide dismutase and catalase cross-linked to polyhemoglobin reduces methemoglobin formation in vitro
    • of outstanding interest. Glutaraldehyde polymerization results in significant levels of oxidized hemoglobin; however, the addition of catalase and superoxide dismutase to the polymerization reaction reduces the oxidation of hemoglobin. In addition, the oxidation rate of the resulting polymers is less than the polymers not cross-linked to catalase and superoxide dismutase. This chemical modification described is the first to address the problems associated with increased autoxidation rates in vivo.
