    • 1H-NMR spectrum is also supportive to the validity of the proposed structure. For example, there has no observation of magnetic nonequivalence, although ethyl 2-bromo-n-butyrate has the similar ester methylene protons in the vicinity of a chiral center. The present peculiarity of the geminal protons seems to be caused mainly by a steric congestion between one perimeter phenyl group and the ester group constrained by the proposed 1,2,3-tri-thiolane skeleton.
