Evidence of cumulative gene losses with progression of premalignant epithelial lesions to carcinoma of the bronchus
-
Thieberville L, Payne P, Vielkinds J, LeRiche J, Horsman D, Nouvet G, Palcic B, Lam S: Evidence of cumulative gene losses with progression of premalignant epithelial lesions to carcinoma of the bronchus. Cancer Res 1995, 55:5133-5139. Fluorescence bronchoscopy was used to localize preinvasive bronchial lesions for biopsy and molecular genetics studies. This study showed that progression of premalignant epithelial lesions to carcinoma was associated with cumulative gene losses. Fluorescence bronchoscopy provides an important tool to study the pathogenesis of lung cancer and the effect of various interventions such as chemoprevention.
