5. The preparation of β-Ce is complex and takes about a month to prepare it allotropically pure [2]; the date of the completion of the final heat treatment was May 9, 1975.
6. Since our building is air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter, the temperature fluctuation over the ∼20 years probably did not exceed ±2 K for any appreciable period.
