    • ZnO is also a semiconductor that has been synthesized as quantum dots from Zn(II) and hydroxide precursors: Spanhel, L.; Anderson, M. A. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1991,113,2826. In order to make sure that our synthetic procedure produces no ZnO, we eliminated the sodium sulfide in our preparation. On the basis of absorption and emission spectra, we do not form any semiconductor nanoclusters unless sulfide ion is present.
